Most of my workbench week was devoted to the modification and painting of more cult figures.

An idea has been simmering in my head for a couple weeks about a modification incorporating a couple of Heroclix figures.  The end result is a composite of two Heroclix figures (Molly Hayes and Oracle) and a zombie by Kings of War.  I bought both Heroclix figures for fifty cents each; Oracle’s computer screens were missing when I bought the figure.

I ended the week with three Games Workshop figures I purchased several years ago at a Brookhurst Hobbies’ Bring and Buy.  I love the figures, and I paid only $8 for all three of them which is a great price.  The original owner had done a good job building them but hadn’t painted the figures.  Since I’m not a DND guy, I decided I would give them a unifying look that would allow them to be part of the cult collection.

I began the week with two more Heroclix.  I have had the figure of Happy Hogan for years, but never really liked the original pose or head.  A good limo driver is always a nice thing to have which is why I bought the figure in the first place, so I decided to give a shot at modifying this one.  I removed his arm and gave it a new position.  I carved a small notch in the fingers of that hand.  I removed the head and then removed his hat.  I placed the hat in the newly carved hand and then added a new head of a more appropriate size.  I am much happier with Happy Hogan now.

About three weeks ago I found a treasure load of Wizards of the Coast Star Wars figures at the swap meet… large number of figures at very low prices.  Needless to say, I bought a bunch… they are hard to find at reasonable prices these days.  My plans do not involve a Hoth campaign, yet there are a lot of Hoth figures and not nearly enough of the non-winter Rebel troopers.  I decided to modify the Hoth figures and paint them as the non-winter Rebel troopers.  I’m happy with the outcome.

Recently I’ve been having a great time building my collection of cowled cultists.  I’ve been a fan of Pulp Figures for years, so I had to include some of them in my collection.  I have two packs of Cowled Cultists #1, and as I looked at them, I decided they offered me the opportunity for some modification.   I kept the figures with knives as original, but I modified the ones with arms raised and the ones pointing.  I moved the right arm of the ones with arms raised to a lower position and made one holding a skull and the other holding a gun.  I removed the hands from both of the figures that were pointing and replaced them with guns in their right hands.  The skull is by Kings of War and the guns were taken from Heroclix figures.

I ended the week painting and head-swapping a few more plastic cultists.  The last two still need their turf basing done.

Continuing with my cultist collection: the figure in the pulpit is a combination of a body by Cthulhu Death May Die with a head from the game Fate of the Elder Gods; the pulpit is by Terrain Crate; the candles are by Tiny Furniture.

With those done I returned to modifying and painting Heroclix.  The biggest Heroclix modification was “chainsaw on wheels.”  For that I combined a Heroclix Professor Xavier with a Heroclix Dark Deadpool. Also added a Heroclix head but can’t remember whose head that is/was.

I ended my workbench week painting two sets of the Heroclix Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (one set in action, the other in a more relaxed pose).  For those not up on the Turtles: Orange is Michelangelo; Red is Raphael, Blue is Leonardo, and Purple is Donatello.

A couple weeks ago I purchased a game called Fate of the Elder Gods at the swap meet for $5.  It was loaded with figures that are compatible with 28mm.  Most of those figures are hooded cultists (60 of them).  I also had seven Heroclix (Thule Society Priest and League Assassin) cultists of the same size that I got in the bargain bucket at a nearby Heroclix shop (about 50 cents each).  I removed the heads of two of the Elder Gods’ cultists and put them on the body of a seated Heroclix figure of Lex Luthor (I did two of those; also 50 cents each).  Lastly I took one of my Pulp Figure cultists and removed the knife from his hand and replaced it with a bunny from a Horrorclix figure (Freddie Von Blood) to add a little sick humor to the group.

Sticking with the cult theme, I decided to offer them a modern option look with computers.  For the computers I used two of the Heroclix Calculator figures.  I removed the seated figures and replaced them with modified Heroclix hooded figures (Hypertime Desaad).

I ended the week painting more Heroclix non-cult figures.  The last two still need work on their basing.
